ALL-ROUND INCREASES IN PORT RETURNS REVENUE, CARGO AND SHIPS The revenue of the Port of Auckland for December, 1929, amounted to £33,987, an increase of £4,367 over the figures of December, 1928. The schedule for the three months ended December 31 showed an increase of £11,817 over the corresponding period of last year. In his report to the board at its meeting this afternoon the treasurer and secretary gave the following summary of receipts for December: Rents, £2,133; goods wharfage, £14,649; vehicular tolls, £320; shipping charges, £7,919; crane dues, £4,661; dock and slipway dues, £714; storage on goods, £1,680; lighting wharves, £342; water supply, £1,033; miscellaneous, £536. Receipts for December for the Manukau Harbour amounted to £554, a decrease of £lOl over a similar period last year. SHIPPING FIGURES The harbourmaster reported that for December the large merchant shipping showed an increase of nine vessels of 78,908 gross tons. The arrivals with their tonnage were as follow, total numbers are given in parentheses:—

The arrivals at Onehunga totalled 15,027 gross tons, a decrease of 3,854 gross tons over the figures of last year. The departures decreased by 3,058 gross tons. INCREASE IN CARGO During December, 115.374 tons of cargo reached the port of Auckland, This is an increase of 28,249 tons over December’s figures last year. The cargo was made up as follows; New Zealand ports, beyond the province, 29,131 tons, of which coal and coke amounted to 19,018 tons; Pacific Island, Western, 12,460 tons, Australia 16,651 tons, half of -which consisted of coal and coke; Straits Settlements 5,771 tons; Peru 6,252 tons; United Kingdom, London, 15,439 tons, West Coast ports 6,433 tons; Canada 10,991 tons; United States 12,216 tons. The total arrivals for the month numbered 2,629 passengers from all parts of the world, and the departures 1,286. This is an increase in the arrivals and departures of 66 and 156 respectively.
