MR. MOSS DAVIS SENDS GIFTS OILS AND SEVRES CHINA Extremely valuable gifts Sevres china, paintings, and a 14th century statue—were offered to the City Council last evening fciy an Aucklander who has shown a fine regard for the City’s art possessions, Mr. Moss Davis. The council accepted Mr. Davis’s gifts, which were made from England. The presents to the City were: Six Sevres china plates, signed by masters of the Sevres Museum, made for the Royal Family and presented by the King as a wedding gift at the end of the 18th century. A statue of the 14th century, representing St. Nicholas. It came from Deauville Church, France. “Her First Love-Letter,” a framed oil painting by Marcus Stone, R.A. In 1889 it was exhibited at the Royal Academy. A framed set of four pictures—“ The Third and Last Voyage of Captain Cook.” A framed oil painting, “Windsor Castle,” by Professor Carl Heffner. A bone Maori mere. A silver Armistice medal and a case containing an ivory farm-yard. Mr. John Barr, the chief librarian, reported the arrival of the articles, suggesting that the council accept them as gifts to City institutions. His proposal for the allocating of the gifts by the Library Committee of the council was approved. “This is another instance of the generosity of our friend, Mr. Davis,” commented the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon. “The collection arrived last week, and is, I believe, very fine.” Mr. Davis will be thanked for his gift, made on behalf of the citizens.
