FREE SCHOOL BOOKS
GOVERNMENT’S DECISION AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN OF UNEMPLOYED PARENTS School books are to be provided free of charge to the children of parents who are unable to buy them. This statement was made this morning by the Hon. "W. B. Taverner, Minister of Railways, in reply to a question asked him by Mr. W. J. Jordan M.P. Mr. Jordan pointed out to the Minister this morning that because of the serious position regarding unemployment many parents would not be able this year to purchase the necessary school books for their children. Mr. Taverner said that the Govern - ment had decided to make the necessary books available this year but only to children whose parents could not afford to buy them. Applications for the free books should be made to the headmasters of the various schools as soon as the terms begin in February.
