At a special meeting ol the Tauniarunui Borough Council, presided over by, the Deputy-Mayor, Cr. J. E. Ward, the clerk, Mr. I. A. Webb, reported that he had received the resignations of Miss P. Brew and Mr. L. A. Grant, assistant Town Clerk, both of whom were going to other appointments. It was decided to promote Mr. C. Beeehe to the position of AssistantTown Clerk, and to call applications for an office girl and a male junior clerk. The continued wet weather has made cricket almost an impossible pastime in the Central King Country this summer, but when convenient the clubs endeavour to proceed with tlieir fixtures. Playing against Manson’s Sidftig, tlio Taumarunui eleven won on the first innings. Williams (53), Winger (retired 52), and Miles (not out 22), were the best performers for the winners. Christiansen (14), Bruce (19), and W. Manson (12) showed best for Manson’s Biding. * * * At the monthly meeting of the Taumarunui Hospital Board Mr. P. R. Skelton was appointed an additional member of the Hospital Committee. In reply to a request from the district nurse, Miss M. Smale, it was decided to purchase a bicycle for this nurse’s use. A plan for a 12-bed isolation block was submitted by the architect, Mr. A. S. Laird, and it was resolved to forward this to the Health Department for consideration. * * * There was a very large attendance at the annual general meeting of the Taumarunui Amateur Operatic Society, the president, Mr. E. Parker, being in the chair. The balance sheet showed a credit of £IOB 11s 5d on the season’s working. Officers were elected as follow:—Patron, Mr. C. A. Boles (Mayor); president, Mr. E. Edwards; vice-presi-dents, Messsr. J. Brown and A. Kinnell; hon. secretary, Mr. C. B. Simons; committee, Mrs. Leigh King, Messrs. M. Sarah and H. Harcourt: pianist, Mr. E Edwards; hon. solicitor. Mr. D. M. Rennie: hon. auditor. Mr. R. V. Re>?nie. A suggestion that a light opera be proi duced early in the year, and p, larger [ work toward the end of the year, was j negatived, and it was resolved to proI duco only one opera in the coming I year.
