STRUCK BY LIGHTNING

DAMAGE TO STEAMER Press Association INVERCARGILL, Monday. While the steamer Awarua was berthed at Half Moon Bay, Stewart Island, today, the top of her foremast was struck by a bolt of lightning, the lamp and about three feet of the mast being carried away. The boat was enveloped in a smother of sparks and there was a terrific explosion, the broken portion of the foremast being carried overboard. One steel wire was burned through and other minor damage was done. Fortunately no one was injured.
