CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING

OTOROHANGA MAN WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS FROM PAKURANGA Some good performances were registered at the Auckland Gun Club’s shoot at Pakuranga on Saturday, when the clay bird championship was shot off in conjunction with other matches. Proceedings commenced with a sevenbird match which was divided by C. E. Hodge, M. Pratt, A. K. Macredie, C. Seddon and F. Curtis with the possible. Another seven-birds match was divided by M. Pratt, C. Seddon, P. N. Gallie, F. E. McKenzie and B. Flanigan with the possible. The championship of 21 birds off 18yds, produced a very keen contest, M. Pratt (Otorohanga) and C. Seddon (Hamilton) tieing with the possible. C. E. Hodge, P. N. Gallie and M. Delich divided third money with 20 each. Pratt and Seddon divided first and second money and shot off for the gold medal donated by R. H. Montgomery and the right to hold the W. H. Hazard silver pheasant for 12 months. Seddon missed his 30th bird, Pratt getting his bird and winning.

A 15-birds match for a fine pair of binoculars presented by W. H. Hazard, Limited, was responsible for a good handicapping performance by Mr. W. Curtis and resulted in a tie between C. E. Hodge (19yds), C. Seddon (19yds), P M. Gallie (16yds), and F. Curtis (15yds), with the possible. Four others got 14 each and three 13. The four named divided the prize money and shot off for the trophy. Curtis missed the 22nd bird, Seddon the 25th, Gallie the 33rd, Hodgo getting his bird and winning. A gimcrack shoot in which the shooter goes back a yard for every bird he shoots, was divided by M. Pratt, starting at 17yds and finishing on 23; C. E. Hodge, 16 and 22; C. Seddon, 16 and 22; F. Curtis, 13 and 19; and D. Stoupe, 11 and 17; each shooter getting his seven birds. The final match, a five-pairs double rise, was divided by F. Curtis (14yds) and M. Delich (13yds) with 9 out of 10. On the day, excluding the double rise match. C. Seddon shot 74 out of 76, C. E. Plodge 73 out of 75; P. N. Gallie 64 out of 68, and M. Pratt 63 out of 66. This is very fine shooting and shows that Auckland has a very fine team of trapshooters. The next match for Mr. R. H. Bartley’s trophy will be held on Saturday, February 1.
