THREE WINS EACH
YACHTS RACE WELL IN COMBINED EVENTS RUN TO SURFDALE Three yachts struck a “treble” in Saturday’s racing in which three clubs joined forces. The boats were the 2Cft mullet boat Spray, the Jellicoe boat Manu and the Y class boat Fay, which secured three wins each. The clubs concerned were the Victoria, the Ponsonby and the Richmond Cruising Clubs. Conditions were ideal for yachting, a full sail breeze coming down from the sou’-sou’ west. The officials were: Cruising Races. —Messrs. O. Johnson, starter; L. Tercel, judge: W. Walsh, timekeeper*. Harbour Race^ —Messrs. O. Johnson, starter; E. Griffiths, judge; A. Perkins, R. Francis and W. Maher, assisted by representatives from the three clubs, timekeepers. When the first aace started at 2.4 U, a light but steady breeze was coming down from the sou**-west and freshened as the afternocm wore on. The big boats made gocxfl progress down harbour assisted by a. strong ebb tide. The small fry were *able to lay the marks all round their Tiarbour course. CRUISING RACES Combined Handicap.—f&he 13 competitors representing second ,and third class keelers and all classes c\t' mullet boats got away to a perfect start, except three. The order of crossing the line was: Starloch, Marie, Spray, Starlight, Rakoa, Otira, Why Not, Gloriana, 2A r atarilci, Maybelle, Malua, Omatere. Mjpwai was 2ra 25s late, Iris 13m late and Wairere 21m late. Finishing times were:—Starloch, 4.37.57; Spray, 4.38.9; Omatere, 4.39.30; Starlight, 4.40.25; Marie, 4.41.9; Raftoa, 4.46.56; Gloriana, 4.48.26; Why Not, 4*49.25; Otira. 4.51.28: Maybelle, 4.52.37; MaSua, 4.55.29Matariki, 4.56.20; Mowai, 4.56.3 V); Wairere, 5.20.56. Launches.—The only starters>*were Togo and Areta, in that order. Finishing times were:—Togso, 4.6.48; Areta, 4.7.33. HARBOUR RACES M, V and S Classes.—Anotheft’ close start was seen in the combine#! event for 16 and 18-footers. The M's, llanene and Maratea, got an even break, Jspllowed hard at heel by the S boat, and the V’s, Surprise, Scud, Rita, Wild Wave, Leveret, the S boats, Phyllis and Aratu, and the V boat, Tui. Swiftsune was 65m late. At the end of the first round the girder was: Surprise, 50 yards ahead of Atanene, with Wild Wave, Scud, Maratea, Leveret, Aratu, Rangitira, Tui and Rita', in that order. Half-way to the Watchman mark from the Shoal Bay buoy, ZVQanene caught Surprise, being better on the close haul. Finishing times were: Surprise, 3.56.36; Manene, 3.56.45; Wild Wave, 3.59.7; Maratea, 4.0.11; Scud, 4.1.43; Leveret, 4.1.53; Aratu, 4.3.17; B.angitirta, 4.7.25; Tui. 4.12.23; Swiftsure, 4.14.22; Phyllis, 4.16.58; Rita, 4.20.42. Y Class.—The starters were: Lois, RaV hiri 11., the Z boat, Oi, Cupid and Fay. At the end of the first round the ordez* was Lois, which was being sailed splen-« didly by Mr. “Farmer” Willetts, with* Raliiri 11. nearby and Cupid, Fay and Oi further astern. All boats carried spinnakers set as leaders. Finishing times were: Lois, 4.8.44, Fav, 4. 10.54; Cupid, 4.10.59; Rahiri 11., 4.11.36; Oi, 4.22.58. T Class. —Seven Jellicoe boats faced the starter and got away in the following order: —Shalimar, Manu, Marie, Ramona, Resolute, Ola 11., Rita I. At the conclusion of the first round the formation was Shalimar, Ramona, Manu, Marie, Ola 11., and Resolute. Rita I. got stuck in the mud at the end of the round.

MANUKAU YACHT CLUB JANET WINS YACHT RACE Janet won the Manulcau Yacht and Motor-Boat Club’s principal yacht race on Satui'day and Norma that for launches. Norwilson won a trial race for selection of Manukau’s boys to contest the Cornwell Cup. The events were raced over harbour courses, the-yachts starting at 2.21 and the launches at 3.20 p.m. Janet led on both rounds for the course followed by Betty and Nyria. Finishing times were:—Janet, 4.12.13; Betty, 4.13.30: Daphne, 4.15.25; Nyria, 4.15.28; Sea Toiler, 4.18; Drone, 4.33. Result: Janet, 1; Betty, 2; Daphne, 3. The times in the race for launches were:—First round: Norma, 3.35.30; Rainbow, 3.43.15; Elma, 3.42.30. Second round: Norma, 3.58.30; Elma, 3.59.45; Rainbow, 3.59.34. Result: Norma, 1; Elma, 2; Rainbow, 3. The race for the Takapuna 12ft 6in class resulted:—Nonvilson, 1; Tuatea, 2. Norwilson was sailed by Master Ray Grant and Tuatea by Master Baker. The officials in charge of the racing were:—Starter and judge, Mr. W. Rawlinson; assistant starters, Messrs. A. Gr'upen, A. Osborne and I. Dennis.
MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB RACE TO CORNWALLIS Nine yachts and six launches contested the Manukau Cruising Club's races to Cornwallis on Saturday. Corrected times placed Sea Gnome first in the yacht race and Cremorne in the launch event A fine start was effected, six boats getting away together, with Roma, lm 40s, Wild Wave, 3m 30s, and Mist Maid, 22m 30s, late. Sylvia soon took the lead, but the smaller boats kept with her. Finishing times were:—Sylvia, scr, 4.23.48; Champagne, sm, 4.32.21; Sea Horse, 6m, 4.34.21; Aoma, scr, 4.35.26; Sea Gnome, 15m. 4.37.10; Miss Mac, 26m, 4.56.21; Wild Wave, 15m, 5.12.45; Shirley, 50m, 5.13.8; Mist Maid, 50m, 5.15.3.
Result.—Sea Gnome, 1; Shirley, 2; Mist Maid, 3. Six launches were sent away under sealed handicaps to a good start at 2.45 p.m., crossing the line in the following order:—Karma, Regal, Tawera, Cremorne, Ramona, Surprise. Surprise soon took the lead, opening up a big gap, which was reduced when she struck trouble off Shag Point. The positions were not altered during the race, except that the leaders increased their advantage. The finish was timed: —Surprise, scr., 3.33.13; Karma, 14m, 3.53.14; Regal, 26m, 3.53.51; Tawera, 37£m, 4.7.34; Cremorne, 43im, 4.9.42; Ramona, 49m, 4.27.51. Result.—Cremorne, 1; Regal, 2; Tawera, 3. Two model yacht races were held, one
being a resail of the opening day race. Nine small boats faced the starter, and the first race went to Master J. Keegan, 1: Master G. Smith, 2: Master P- McGuire, 3. In the resail race only two boats finished, these being owned by Master J. Keegan, 1; Master G. Smith, 2. The officers of the day were:—Starter, Mr. E. Smith: timekeepers, at Cornwallis, Messrs. P. Auger and J. C. Sibbin; model yacht superintendent, Mr. L,. E. Smith. POWER BOAT RACING WIN FOR RAMONA Tho New Zealand Power-Boat Association held a cruising: race to Rocky Bay on Saturday for a trophy presented by the commodore, Mr. H. O. Wiles. The four competitors were started by Mr. J. S. D. Hanna. They got away to a good start at 2.30. Finishing- times were:—Ramona, 3.43.1; Yiveen, 4.4.49; Adelaide, 4.12.25; Maro, 4.20.25. The corrected results place Ramona (13m 30s), 1; and Adelaide (37m 455),
