BIGGER OVERSEAS VESSELS VISITING PORT OR AUCKLAND INTERESTING COMPARISONS Bigger overseas vese are now trading between AucKland and other countries. Although 89 fewer vessels arrived at Auckland during the year 1929, the gross tonnage increased by 124,154 tons. A comparison with the figures for 1926 is also interesting. In that year 301 more vessels reached the port, but the gross tonnage was only 4,447,24 S tons, compared with 4,493,511 tons ? r ear. 1 The.re was a slight increase in the port’s shipping during the month of December, the number of ships increasing by nine, and the gross tonnage by 104,346 tons. • The figures for the year were as follow: Arrivals.
