Returning after her Christmas cruise, Mr. R. Woods’s launch, Frolic, ninde the trip between Auckland and Whangarei in 11 hours. * * * The centennrary of the founding of Waimate North as the first inland mission station and settlement in New' Zealand will be celebrated on Sunday, January 12. ♦ • * The heavy rain and wind of the tast week played havoc with the plum and other early fruit crops. Early potatoes left in the ground also show a tendency to blight. which has been more prevalent this season than in previous years.. Yesterday a car was bogged between Waipu Cove and Dang’s Reach. On New Year’s Day a gar was bogged further along this road, and 19 cars were held up. All these cars were making North. <* * * Mr. Tommy Hawkins, the wellknown Northern boxer, is a patient in the Whangarei Hospital. Although Ills condition is serious he is reported to be progressing favourably.
