VICE REGAL WORK
PRESBYTERIAN APPRECIATION INTEREST IN DOMINION AFFAIRS In a letter addressed to the Governor-General Sir Charles FerKusson, sincere regret at the approachin? departure of his Excellency and lAdy Alice Fergusson is expressed by the Rev. Professor W. Hewitson, Moderator of the ITesbyterian Church of Now Zealand. “We appreciate very much your life and work among us during the last five years,” states the letter. “You have strengthened the bonds that unite us to the throne of his Majesty the King, and helped us to realise that we are part of a great Empire. You have also taken a deep interest, often involving much toil of travel, in our I>cminion affairs, our material conditions, our institutions, and the social and moral life of our community. You have been at pains to promote a good spirit in our schools and colleges, and her Excellency has shown her interest in women by initiating and fostering mothers’ unions. “In a frank and unobtrusive way you have acknowledged yourselves to be subjects of another King, whose kingdom is not of this world, and have spoken definitely of Christian facts and duties. In thus dealing with the home, the school and religion you have touched the life of our Dominion in its deepest places. Your influence is much valued, and it will be greatly missed. We hope that on your return to the Homeland you will have a ha Tpv reunion with your family and friends and that, in the good providence of God, there are many years of service to the King and to the Wwtpfre ahead of you.”
