BAND IN DOMAIN
The Municipal Band plays in the Domain this evening at 8 o'clock and in Point Erin Park tomorrow (Thursday) at 8 p.m. A fine musical programme will include the “Light Cavalry” overture, bright marches, “The Vanished Army” and “The Soldier’s Wooing”: grand march. “La. Heine de Saba”: suite. “At the King’s Court"; selections, “Classica” and * Supplication”: Oriental scene. “A Dervish Chorus,” with cornet obbligato by Mr. Fred Bowes. Other tuneful items have been arranged. “MADAME X” AT MT. EDEN When the screen takes a time-hor.-oured novel or a play that has achieved international success and adapts it to its own peculiar technique, theatregoers usually wait, curious, to see how the original will be altered in the translation. Hence, when Hollywood announced “Madame X” as a new talking picture play, with Ruth Chatterton, stage star, as heroine, and Lionel Barrymore, famous stage actor, as director, picture fans sat up and took notice. The screen version is now at the Crystal Palace Theatre where it is being shown to delighted crowds. For not only does the picture version retain everything that the stage play had, but adds a great deal more—ami it is presented in a series of concentrated dramatic scenes that crowd three times the drama into the same length of time that it took to present the play. RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM “Win That Girl,” now being shown at both the Rialto (Newmarket) and Regent (Epsom) Theatres, is a breezy and entertaining story of two American college youths, with a big part of the story devoted to football. Sue Carol and Nick Stuart have leading roles. The second feature at both theatres is “Riley, the Cop,” an amusing tale of a New York policeman sent to Germany to escort a prisoner. He has many exciting adventures in Berlin, including a touching romance with a beer-garden waitress, played by Louise Fazenda. Farrel McDonald is the policeman.
