EMPRESS SHOWS “SYNCOPATION”

“Syncopation,” now at the Empress Theatre, Newton, is a melodious, tuneful, sprightly, sparkling film music extravaganza which bowed its way into Auckland and into the hearts of enraptured theatregoers. Here, if anywhere, the tired business man can go and forget dull care in sprightly tunes, sparkling repartee, golden voices and glittering romance. But that’s not all. “Syncopation” has a very real and very moving romance. It is the tale of a pair of wedded dancers, the team of Sloane and Darrel, played by Barbara Bennett and Bobby Watson, who have been playing in vaudeville. Fame and fortune smile unexpectedly upon them, and with wealth and white lights come those differences that break hearts. ROYAL, KINGSLAND “The Fagan.” a beautifully produced picture of native life in the South Sea Islands, continues to be shown at the Theatre Royal, Kingsland. It is an outstanding picture with the popular actor, Ramon Novarro, in the leading role. “The Pagan” is a film which mingles beautiful photography with an exquisite love story, interspersed with many exciting incidents. It was made entirely in the South Seas. A bright supporting programme is also being shown.
