LAUNCH SIGNALS FOR HELP
ENGINE FAILS OFF REEF Press Association WELLINGTON, Thursday. The 30ft. motor-launch Taihoa, with the owner, Mr. A. Butler, of Wellington, and a friend on board, was returning from a fishing excursion this afternoon when her engine became disabled off Barrett's Reef, near Wellington Heads. As there was a strong north-westerly blowing there was some risk of the launch being blown out to sea. An improvised signal of distress was hoisted at about 3 p.m. The launch did not have sufficient canvas to make any headway, so the occupants awaited help. At 3.45 p.m. the Harbour Board's pilot launch Arahina left the wharf in response to the summons and picked up the disabled launch, which she towed safely to Pipitea Wharf at 5.40 p.m.
