Logan Chief Shows Return to Form

The Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s annual fixture opened today in fine weather, but rain fell before the last two events were got off. The attendance was good and the track in fine order. The totalisator did keen lhe surn of £34,516 was handled for the day, compared with £28,431 for the opening day last year, which represented an appreciable increase. Racir.g was interesting and some fine performances were registered. The Westpcrt-owned Anon, in winning the Templeton Handicap, was clocked to run 12 furlongs in 3.21 1-5 from a 3.32 mark, and the trotter Admiral Bingen off 3.37 recorded 3.28 2-5 over a similar distance in the Introductory Handicap. The once brilliant Logan Chief showed a return to form by winning the Canterbury Handicap from Maiwhariti, Quality and Diindas Boy, who was favourite. For galloping; Maiwhariti was unplaced and Daphne de Oro was given fourth berth. Arikitoa, after finishing second to Sonoma in the Lyttelton Handicap, won the Au Revoir Handicap from the favourite Lady Cello; and Roddy prevailed in the saddle heat-. The Auckland mare Etta Cole, who was expected to show her true value on the Addington track, was made a good favourite for the Stewards’ Handicap, but she never gave her supporters much hope. The winner turned up in Ukulele Lady, who won very easily from Len Wood. At the handicap, Athalone proved too good for Roi L Or and Talent, the favourite combination Orphan—Steel All—Lady Matchliglit letting tliejir supporters down badly.
