PUBLICITY DRIVE
CONTINENT KEEN ON NEW ZEALAND INTEREST IN MAORIS Reed. 10 a.m. LONDON, Monday. The New Zealand Publicity Branch reports that unprecedented interest is being shown in New Zealand affairs, including scenery, industries and products, throughout Europe and particularly in Germany, Holland, and Belgium, whence many inquiries have come from newspapers for photographs. A German periodical has published a page of photographs of scenery and Maoris, in which they are specially interested. They are also greatly interested in flax. The Publicity Department has over 500 photographs circulating on the Continent, in addition to supplying Belgian, German and Dutch syndicates with educational films and lantern slides. This has resulted in a rapid increase in the demand for honey and apples. New Zealand is not troubled in placing films in England, although they are silent. Mr. Drew, publicity officer, stated that the films are showing in an average of 15 theatres daily throughout the year, mostly in the provinces, despite the fact that they are neither talkies nor sound films. Many managers say the public prefer silent pictures.
