The defence force at Bulawayo was called out at the week-end to quell a native tribal disturbance. The Matabeles resent the presence of the Manicas native locations, alleging that they are depriving them of their jobs and interfering with the wives of the Matabeles.
They organised an attack, which rasulted in two deaths, two being dangerously wounded and fifty injured. Huts were demolished and the contents burned. The outbreak was widespread and the police were unable to cope with it.
Europeans were not molested.
