HOLIDAY FIGURES SHOW MARKED INCREASE
RACEGOERS PRODUCE REVENUE
As an indication of the increased passenger traffic during the Christmas season, 34,994 ordinary and excursion tickets were issued at the Auckland Railway Station and the central booking office during the first 26 days of December, representing an increase on last year’s figures of approximately 7,000 tickets. The railway station was a hive of activity last evening. The Limited express, carrying more than 200 passengers, rvas packed to capacity. The ordinary express train, which leaves at 7.40 p.m., had to be divided into two trains, one leaving at 7.40 p.m. and the other at 8.40. There were 300 passengers on the first, train and 320 on the second. The Limited express from Wellington arrived at Auckland at 10 o'clock this morning, the half hour delay being due to heavy passenger traffic and crossing delays. Race traffic figures showed a marked increase over the holidays. On Boxing Day outward trains to Ellerslie carried 3,80 S passengers, an increase of almost 1,000 on last year's figures.
