DRUNK AND ARMED
MAN WITH RIFLE ARRESTED It was not long alter his appearance in Symonds Street yesterday, armed with a .22 calibre rifle, that Robert Milligan was arrested. This morning at the Police Court, Milligan, a labourer aged 38, was charged with being found drunk in Symonds Street while in possession of a firearm. There was a second count of being unlawfully in possession of a firearm. Accused pleaded guilty to both charges. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that Milligan had not been long in town. He had brought the rifle in from the country and it was not registered. “There was no criminal intent,” he added.
Accused's explanation was that he was taking the weapon out to Tamaki.
Fines of 5s for drunkenness and 10s on the second charge were imposed by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M,
