WAITEMATA BOWLERS CLUB NOTES AND NEWS Tlio following will represent the Waitemata Bowling Club against Rocky Nook, inter-club play, on Saturday : At Rocky Nook.—Brennan, Swindail, Fraser, Johnston, Brooks, Lilburn, Lethbridge, Tarrant, Whitehead, Coppin, Heath, McGill, Keppy, Hunt, Smith, Stillwell. At Waitemata: Davidson, Dent, Rogers, Davies, Bear, Peterson, Elston, Wells, Jones, Rose, Browne, Hurley, Shepherd, Hulse, Campbell, Burrows. Results of the first round of the Leonard Memorial Cup are as follow: Tarrant beat Davies; Aspden beat Kerry; Brooks beat Flavell; Roberton beat Williamson; Hulse beat Cadness; Dent beat Bush; Johnston beat Fraser; Browne beat Swindail; McGill beat Currie; Blackledge beat Stewart; Hurley and Rogers won by default. 'j The committee of the Waitemata Club has recommended that a board of honour be erected in the club’s pavilion. On it will be recorded the achievements of past and present members of the club. An appeal for subscriptions from members toward the erection of the board has met with a good response, and the board, when completed, will be an ornament to the pavilion. CLUB’S PENNANT SUCCESS There was considerable jubilation in Northcote and Birkenhead among the bowlers of the Waitemata Club when the results of the pennant match against Dominion Road came to hand and indicated a continuance of their premier position in the A section of the pennant competition. This suburban club has battled along gamely but without much success through recent years, and when, in the first round this year, its five wins out of six against Mount Eden having placed it at the top of the section with a percentage of 83, there was a tendency in some quarters to treat the club’s position as something of a joke. Naturally, members of the club were up on their toes last Saturday, and the club was freely congratulated on holding its end up so well. With this start, this club of .good “battlers” should at any rate occupy a much better'position on the list than they did last year, even if they are unable to retain their present position at the top. —“ONLOOKER.” PAPATOETOE TOURNEY The Papatoetoe Bowling Club held an all-day tournament on Boxing Day, the greens'Toeing full. Conditions were favourable until late in the afternoon, when a fine rain set in, but the finals were decided before play was suspended. The winners of the pairs tournament were:—J. Watson and J. Franklin (four wins and one loss); runners-up, Messrs. L. R. Cutforth and A. Bygrave (three and a-half wins and one and ahalf losses).
