WELLINGTON V. AUCKLAND Press Association WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Brabin Shield match between the Auckland and Wellington junior representative teams was commenced today. Auckland batted first and failed badly on a good wicket to produce its true batting form. It lost eight wickets for 38 runs, but Byerly and Jameson added 56 runs for the ninth wicket. Byerly hit up 52 runs in 25 minutes, including 3 2 fours. He was the only double-figure scorer. Auckland made 96. C. Bilby took six wickets for Wellington “for 39 runs, and R. E. Simpson three wickets for 13 runs. Wellington started sensationally. Byerly bowling Neal with the first ball of the innings. Paetz and Cutts put on 70 runs for the second wicket. Four wickets were down for 73 when MeGavin and Wareham added ISS runs for the fifth wicket. MeGavin made 115 and Wareham 105. At stumps Wellington had made 342 for the loss of nine wickets* —— —_ .
