NORTHCOTE TREAT

. PUPILS’ RECITAL TO RAISE FUNDS The Northcote Palais Picture Theatre presented a gay appearance on Thursday evening when the pupils of Miss Ebba Gunman gave a recital. The funds raised are to be devoted to providing a Christmas treat in the same theatre on Christmas Eve, for the scholars attending the Northcote Primary School. A willing band of workers had effectively decorated the stage with green fernery and beautiful rambler roses. The programme consisted of enjoyable vocal solos, part songs and character songs and dances. At the conclusion of the performance Miss E. Gunman and Mrs. A. J. Hurley, who acted as accompanists, were the recipients of bouquets, Mr. H. Shaw, a member of the school committee, returning thanks to the performers and the patrons for their assistance. Children taking part were:—Hilda Bunn, Sybil Hartigan, Beatrice Welch, Doreen Woodward, Vera Bennisoa, Joyce Howland, Peggy Brennan, Leon McFetridge, Nancy Borrows, Eva Giles, Eileen Robertson, Myra Phillips, Pat Hurley, Jean Riddell, Rona Brennan, Betty Brady, Heather Crawford, Jean Nicholson, Thelma Adamson, Marjorie Brooking, Estelle Brown, Shirley Kiddell, Katie Ungemuth, Joan Borrows. Dorothy Scarr, Rata Shaw, Nessie Martin, Elsie Taylor, Jack Holland, Donnie Dunn, Joe Turner, Douglas Shaw, George Morgan, Allen Horseman, Jim Davidson, lan Davidson, Douglas Sharp, Ivan Dunn, Jack Gunman, Douglas Broady, Jim Hartigan, Norman Dunn, Ray Johnston, Leslie Williams, Harry Williams, Norman McKenzie. PUPILS’ PARTY BRIGHT PROGRAMME Miss Hilda Parkinson, A.L.C.M., L.L.C.M., gave a party for her elocution pupils at her studio on Saturday. Paper hats, balloons and favours were distributed among the children, and a programme of recitations, duologues musical numbers and games was much appreciated. The following performers gave items: Jean Douglas, Moira and Betty Tinline, Marjorie Greer, Joyce and Ronnie Chapman, Jewel Paterson, Audrey and Bertie James, Joyce and Ronnie Finlay, Nita Datson, Louis Cassidy, Gaby Heighton, Betty Sherer, Annie O Brien, Josie Spick and Alan Bryant Supper was served, bringing a happy gathering to a close. CHILDREN’S TREAT SANTA CLAUS AT ONEHUNGA About 100 children, of all ages, were entertained on Saturday evening bv the Onehunga Orphans’ Club in their hall in Church Street. After a short address by the president, Mr. Robert Buchanan, vocal and instrumental items were given by Misses Vc'a Bray. Marjorie Yeatman E Bazey and I. Templeton. Sanfii Claus made a. spectacular entranc° from the chimney and fireplace, and distributed an assortment of toys and novelties to the little ones. Ice-creams sweets, aerated waters and cakes then made Christmas cheer for old and young.

The arrangements, under the control of Bros. R. G. Speight, programme steward, J. Kennedy Ross, chief steward, and C. A. Osborne, secretary, were well carried out, the treat being one of the most enjoyable yet held by the club.
