Improving On Nature!
Very few people can be perfectly beautiful, but everybody must have one or two good points, so there is no need to hide their light under a bushel!
It is no use being modest to oneself any more than it helps if you refuse to recognise your worst features. At any rate, it is more inspiring if y°d dwell upon your good points, aud when you feel that you are really not half bad-looking you are on the road to being pretty. It is quite a good plan to make a list of your bad aud your good features, for this helps when you are choosing your clothes. You want to accentuate your favourable features, and here are some hints as to horv you should do this. A GIFT OF THE GODS
Now. let us suppose that you have a lovely complexion. Apart from taking care of it, you should draw attention to by wearing colours which other people who have muddy skins cannot wear. There are a host of shades which only the owner of a good complexion can wear, such as orange and that fascinating green which borders on yellow. You can also indulge in small hats with no brims, for you have nothing to fear from the glaring light, and if you take care to keep your eyebrows nicely plucked you will look excessively smart. The girl with a lovely skin should always try to look chic rather than merely “pretty.” If you have beautiful eyes, wear your hair drawn off your forehead, and, if it suits you, behind your ears. Beautiful eyes are one of the greatest assets that anybody can have, for they give character to the whole face. You can make the worst complexion appear quite good, but you can’t "fake” lovely eyes. Study your eyes, and if you know that they are beautiful wear your hair behind your ears. Hair worn in a wave over the forehead is very useful, on the other hand for those of you who are inclined to have nondescript or small eyes. In that case, you must not attempt any hairdressing at all severe or classical, for it will spell disaster. A GREAT BLESSING
Good legs and ankles are also a gr.eat blessing, but on the whole they are not as important as a lovely skin and figure. Of course, they do make a perfect “finish” to a smart tailormade, and if you possess them I advise you to emphasise them by wearing very plain and straight skirts and low-keeled shoes. You can also let your fancy wander in the matter of exotic coloured stockings, for the more you underline your perfect proportions the better. If your legs are of the champagne-bottle order, wear pleated skirts and very high-heeled shoes, with stockings exactly matching your clothes. When you have a lovely figure don’t wear the shapeless type of jersey, but something which is slightly moulded to the figure. But if you are “floppy,” then beware of what you put on. By the way, you will find that alternate applications of boiling salt water and cold more efficacious than using plain water for reducing a too generous bust.
A good figure is one of the few things which you can obtain even if Nature has not presented you with it to begin with. There is no excuse for any woman to remain shapeless now that there are so many contrivances, mechanical and otherwise, with which she can rectify a lumpy figure. WHEN THE CLASP COMES OFF! If the clasp should come out of your bag (as sometimes does happen), use a large decorative button to cover the place. Buttons are so much the mode at present. A small square of material or kid must first be sewn on underneath the flap, and on to this can be sewn a press stud in place of the clasp. The latest way to fasten a pochette is by an ivory or composition or metal peg, slipped through a strap. If you are making a pochette it would be quite simple to use a piece ef painted wood on fine cord for a peg.
