“OCCUPATION” BABIES

SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR GERMANY 15,000 TO BE MAINTAINED BERLIN, Sunday. The weekly newspaper “Tagebueh” is demanding that the German delegation at The Hague Reparation Conference in January should propose that the Young plan be revised, to provide an appropriation for the maintenance of the “occupation” babies. It is alleged that there are 15,000 children in the Rhineland whose fathers are soldiers of the Allied occupation forces. These, says the “Tagebueh,” should not be allowed to grow up with embittered feelings toward their enemy fathers. It says: “Even the forthright Mr. Snowden, the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, could not bluntly refuse to reduce Germany’s burdens in favour of children who owe their existence to the affection of German girls toward the occupation soldiers. A women's club in the Rhineland is also demanding that Britain and France should allot funds for the support of these babies.
