NEW AIRDROME SITE
ORAKEI LAND AVAILABLE The use of a portion of the Orakei block for an airplane landing ground and. as a site for a hangar -was sanctioned by the City Council last evening. The application came from the Commissioner of Crown Lands and received a favourable committee recommendation after advice from Major L. M. Isitt. The purpose of the new base will be for conducting short passenger flights on Saturdays and holidays. The acting City engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, reported that the site was comparatively small, being 230 yards by 400 yards, and 19 acres in extent. Provided the site suited the airmen concerned, he did not object to offering the area, conditionally on the company indemnifying the council from liability in the event of accidents or damage.
