WATER SUPPLY SAVING
IMPROVEMENT AT ONE TREE HILL REDUCTION BELOW 20 PER CENT. Illuminating figures regarding the water supply, sale of water and losses, were presented by the clerk, Mr. A. Leese, at the meeting of the One Tree Hill Road Board last evening. For the six months ended November 30, 1929. 43,718,320 gallons were pumped and 33,300,000 gallons sold, leaving 10,418,320 gallons or 23.8 per cent, unaccounted for. For the same period ended November 30, 1928, 43,461,000 gallons were pumped, 27,481,000 sold, and 15,980,000 gallons or 36.8 per cent, unaccounted for. Luring the six months ended May 31, 1929, 49,536,790 gallons were pumped and 35,121,000 galons sold, leaving 14,415,790 gallons or 29.1 per. cent, unaccounted for. This showed remarkable improvement. With the deduction for flushing mains, and sewers, fire-fighting and road works, th© quantity of which could not be accurately estimated, it could be definitely stated that the actual loss was reduced to below 20 per cent. This was the direct result of constant attention to mains arid meters and further improvement was expected. The net benefit Was not less than £ 600 per annum.
