BAY OF ISLANDS EXCURSION
The railway excursion to the Bay of Islands at the week-end was well patronised and arrived well up to time at Opua. The launches were waiting at the terminus, and the visitors were conveyed to Russell and to the various places of interest. During the afternoon special trips were made to the deep-sea anglers’ base on Urupukapuka Island, and the party was shown over the buildings. Otehei Bay is looking at its best at this period of the fishing season and the beautifu pohutukawas, in full bloom, were much admired. Two large makos were hung on the derrick, and as a number of the excursionists had never seen a game fish before, they could hardly believe that such huge monsters could be caught with rod and line.
