POST OFFICE BUSY
HEAVY OVERSEAS MAILS ARRIVE CHRISTMAS RUSH BEGINS Yesterday, the Niagara brought to Auckland 137 bags of Australian mail and 90 bags of English and American letter mail, brought by the Tahiti, arrived from Wellington by the Limited express. The work of sorting necessitated rush work by the post office staff, but the preliminary sorting was completed by 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Mail was sorted into private boxes throughout the day, and some was delivered by postmen yesterday afternoon. The letter delivery will be completed today. The Tahiti also brought a number of parcel receptacles and bags of second-class mail. These arrived from Wellington in sections, and the last consignment should be here today. Some parcels arrived by the Daylight Limited last night. In order to be delivered in the South Island before Christmas mail should be posted in Auckland not later than Thursday or Friday. The Marama, which arrived at Auckland early this morning with Australian mail, will return to Sydney on Friday with the last mail that can be delivered there before Christmas. The Niagara sailed today with mail for England and the United States, and specially addressed correspondence for England will also be dispatched on Thursday to go by the Taranaki from Wellington.
