TIN PRICES RECOVER

SPECTACULAR ADVANCE OF £l3 EFFORTS OF PRODUCERS United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. A feature of the metal markets has been the spectacular recovery in the ■price of tin, which advanced £l3 during the week. The cause of this satisfactory movement is apparently that the market has been receiving support from new quarters, and that it is believed the first definite step has been taken to give effect to the policy of the Tin Producers’ Association. News has been received from Malaya that the mining interests there have practically agreed on a co-operative arrangement for the restriction of the output. It is expected that the Tin Producers’ Association will shortly make an important statement regarding the position. The association, in order to reestablish the tin industry on a sound and permanent footing, recommends members throughout the world, and particularly in the East, to cease production in every week-end in 1930 and also in seven clear days in January and February, and again in March if necessary. The council expresses the opinion that prudent retardation of production to the amount of the world demand will prevent an excessive rise in price, which would be inimical to all interests.
