SWEDISH ATHLETE GOING HOME

Bengt Rydbeck, one of the most popular athletes ever seen on the playing fields of the Dominion left Wellington this week with his New Zealand wife, en route to Sweden, his home country. Rydbeck arrived here about 12 months ago, and it was not long before his presence was felt. He was not as successful as he deserved to be owing to leg injuries, but he won the hop, step and jump title at the national meeting with his first jump, but injured his leg in his next attempt. He holds a New South Wales title and record, and before coming to the Southern Hemisphere was a Swedish junior champion. He is also a tennis player of considerable excellence, and it. was hoped that during the present summer he would take his place in championship tennis events.
