WHIPPET RACING
AUCKLAND CLUB’S FIXTURE GOOD SPORT AT BLANDFORD PARK The Christmas fixture of the Auckland Whippet Racing Club was held at Blandford Park this afternoon in delightful weather. Owing to many counter-attractions the attendance was sparse. The function was splendidly conducted, and there was practically no i delay between the various heats and finals. The track was in fine order, j allowing the dogs to put up good times. Juliet, by Captain Comedy—Miss Argyle, owned by Mr. A. A. Avery, was in rare form, and after winning the Maiden Handicap, scored decisively in tho Auckland Cup. The runner-up, Duke* Is also owned by Mr. Avery. Duke, a stable-mate of the champion speedster, Jultet, won the hurdles for Mr. Avery, who was again successful in producing the winner of the final event, the President’s Handicap, with Juliet. This owner cleaned up the programme, securing the four first prizes, and annexing both cups. Results are as follow: MAIDEN HANDICAP Of £10; 115 Yards. First Heat Duke (Mr. A. A. Avery), 7yds .. 1 Express Transit (Mrs. Woodhams), Byds 2 Mustard (Stevens Bros.), 9J.yds .. 3 Also ran: Fleetfoot, 15yds; Miss Auckland, 7yds. Time, 8 l-ss. Final JULIET 1 EXPRESS TRANSIT 2 DUKE 3 All started. Won by half a yard. Time, 7 2-ss. AUCKLAND CUP Of £23 and Silver Cup; 115 Yards. First Heat Bonny Doon (Mr. W. Sherriffs), 2yds 1 Duke (Mr. A. A. Time, Ss. NORTHERN HURDLES Of £l2 10s; 115 yards First Heat Duke (Mr. A. A. Avery), liyds (pen. Iyd) 1 Lightning (Mrs. M. C. Hardy), Iyd 2 Also ran: Miss Overland, 6yds. Time, 0 3-5. This heat was run twice, a false start being declared in the first go, in' which the ultimate winner, Duke, was left at the getaway. Second Heat A wap urn Kate (Mr. W. Sherriff’s) iyd 1 Express Transit (Mrs. Woodham’s), 2yds 2 Also ran: Juliet, liyds behind (pen. L'iyds). Juliet finished second, but failed to negotiate the final obstacle and was disqualified. Time, 9 4-ssec. Final DUKE 1 EXPRESS TRANSIT 2 AWAPUNI KATE 3 Lightning also started, but failed at the first hurdle. Won by a foot. Time, 9 2-5.
