WHIPPET RACING

TOMORROW’S ATTRACTION AT BLANDFORD PARK

The Auckland Whippet Racing Club will hold a big meeting at Blandford Park tomorrow afternoon, the first event beginning at 2.15. * The sport was introduced into Auckland last summer and found immediate popularity. The racing is packed full of incident in which speed and thrills are .seen in plenty. The dogs, which are specially trained, can cover 200 yards in less than 12 seconds —a speed of 40 miles an hour. The dogs have speed in their blood and need no urging. Their training and racing is all done with absolute kindness, so there is nothing dog-lovers can object to. The whippets revel in the sport, especially the hurdling events, which are an education to watch. Tomorrow’s sport should be particularly keen, as entries have come from all over the Dominion. The promoters expect that some records will be smashed.
