KEEL YACHTS TO RACE

SQUADRON’S PROGRAMME

ENTRIES FOR TOMORROW A harbour race for keel yachts and ISft pa tikis will be held tomorrow afternoon by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Both events will start off the King’s Wharf, the keel yachts at 2.30 and the M’s at 2.45. The following keel boats will race: lorangi, Thelma, Moana, Nga-toa, Ariki, Rangi, Alexa, Wairiki, Ladj'e Wilma, Victory, Scout, Kotuku, Prize, Kotiri, lona, Rawene, Janet. Windward. The handicaps will be declared tomorrow. / The entries for class M are as follow’s: —Manenc, Maratea, Mawhiti, Manu, Maroro, Ma tar ere. The officers for the day will be Messrs. .T. B. Johnston, J. VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB ANNUAL “CUP DAY” EVENTS The Victoria Cruising Club will hold its annual “Cup Day” tomorrow. Keel yachts and mullet boats will compete for the Casey Cup, the V and S classes for the Rae Cup, and the 14-foot classes for the Boonstra Memorial Cup. Following are the racing arrangements:— Launches. —2.30 p.m. Course: From flagship moored off St. Mary’s Bay and mark moored south, thence round Pile beacon, off Chelsea, thence round outer pile off Bayswater, thence round mark moored off tide deflector, finishing at flagship. POWER-BOAT RACING A cruising race to Arkle’s Bay for launches will bo held tomorrow by the New Zealand Power-Boat Association. The race will begin from King’s Wharf at 2.15 p.m. The course is from the start direct to the destination, observing only the Sandspit Beacon. The finishing line will be between the Arkle’s Bay Wharf and the northern point of the bay. Handicaps are as follow: My Girl, scr; Lady Margaret 11., 6m: Ramona, 13m 30s; Chrysler, 23m' 455: Viveen, 25m 455; Kathryn If., 29m 435: Maro, 33m 455; Edwina, 41m 455. The officials will be Messrs. S. BellBooth and J. S. D. Hanna.

MANUKAU YACHT CLUB Tiie Manukau Yacht and Motor-boat Club will hold races for yachts and launches tomorrow. Handicaps are: Launches (Kermath Cup, 28 miles).— Surprise. CLUB FOUNDER HONOURED The presentation of a gold Eversharp pencil and a fountain pen was made by members of the Ponsonby

Cruising Club last evening to one of the club's founders, Mr. A. Thompson. In making the gift, the secretary, Mr. R. Francis, referred to Mr. Thompson’s association with the club, which extended since its foundation in 1900. He had held office as commodore and president, and had been a life member for 25 years. During the 29 years of the club’s life, Mr. Thompson had always held some office, and had earned the appreciation of members. Fie was now president again, having retired from the position of commodore at last annual meeting.

MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB Yachts and launches will race to Cornwallis tomorrow under the flag of the Manukau Cruising Club. The sailing event will start at 2.45 p.m. and the launches at 3 o’clock. BAIRD IN WELLINGTON

A. E. Baird, ex-national swimming champion and record-holder, who has been unable to go into training so far this season owing to illness, is at present in AVellington. Fie states that he may be taking up his permanent residence in that city, in which case he will swim in future for the AVellington province.
