PENWOMEN’S LEAGUE

LITERARY CIRCLE MEETS The literary study section of the New Zealand League of Penwomen held their final meeting at the league’s rooms during the week, Miss Orna Burton, convener of the section, giving an interesting lecture upon Shakespeare’s heroines. Short scenes were acted by members as the lecture proceeded. Those taking part were;—Desdeiuona, Aliss Sweet; Hermione, Airs. Helen Griffiths; Cordelia, Aliss Spurling; Duke and Viola, Alisses Dash and Peacock; Ferdinand and Aliranda, Mrs. Spinley and Aliss Burton; Ophelia, Miss Peacock; Juliet and nurse, Alisses Burton and Sweet; Rosalind and Celia, Airs. Richmond and Aliss Spurling; Benedict and Beatrice, Airs. Schmitt and Aliss Greville; Katherine, Aliss Quill: Portia, Aliss Bertram; Alacbeth and Lady Alacbeth, Airs. Helen Griffith and Aliss Burton. At the conclusipn of the meeting Aliss Burton was given a hearty vote of thanks for her able and interesting talk.
