WOMAN WINS CLAIM
ACTION FOR RECOVERY OF LOANS
“EXTRAORDINARY ' TRANSACTION”
"The transactions were extraordinary, and can only be understood because of the close, almost family, relationship existing between the parties.” This comment was made by Mr. Justice Smith in the Supreme Court yesterday, in giving judgment for £3S4 for Maria Jane Roussel Cossey (Mr. Richmond) on her claim against the estate of Geo. Wrn. Irvine MeEwin, who died in March last, leaving an estate of £2,800. Mr. Reed represented the executor of the estate. The claim represented £137 loaned to McEwin during his life, and a property valued at £250 transferred to McEwin, who was to pay for it when he received money coming td him. Mr. Justice Smith said that few people came to court with such a claim without being able to produce some sort of receipt for moneys advanced, but he accepted the proof tendered because of the close relationship between the parties.
