TOUR MAY BE OFF
Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Today. The indications at the moment are ] that the New Zealand Women’s i HoekJey Association is going to have j some trouble in getting together the j amount of money necessary to send a’
team to the Empire women’s hockey tournament to take place in South Africa in July, August, and September of next year. During- the past few months the association has been successful in collecting £I,OOO, but they still require £750 to make the amount in hand sufficient to defray all expenses. The association recently applied to the Government for the balance required, considering that the tour would do much to help advertise New Zealand overseas, but the Minister has now replied that owing to a number of additional burdens on the consolidated fund fo.r various purposes he is unable t® recommend Cabinet to make the grant. The association is therefore in the unfortunate position of having to raise £750 before January 31, the date on which entries dose, and if they cannot do it then the tour will have to be abandoned.
