AMATEUR CYCLING

BREAK WITH N.Z.A.A.A.? Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Today. • An attempt is being made to take the control of amateur cycling out of the hands of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and its affiliated centres and to vest it in an organisation to be known as the New Zealand Union of Cyci ists. The movement first started in Auckland and exicli of the cycling clubs in 110 Dominion has been asked to give its opinion of the idea. The Port Nicholson Amateur Cycling Club, the biggest organisation of its kind in New Zealand, considered the matter at a meeting this week. Although the attendance was not by any means large a resolution was carried to the effect that the meeting approved the proposal for direct affiliation, meaning substantially that those present considered that the time had come when cycling should control its own destiny and not be the hand-maid of the N.Z.A.A.A. Whether the new organisation has .sufficient backing to bring it into existence remains to be seen, but the indications are not at the moment very bright in any part of New Zealand, except perhaps in Auckland.
