A LIVELY MONK

Phil Monk, Dunedin’s hard-hittinjg batsman and fast bowler, thoroughly enjoys his cricket. He is a soldi«r bv profession and evidently has taken tor his motto: “.Up, Guards, and at. ’em.” for he never wastes any time in .settling down, but whacks away at the ball from the jump. A weakness with him is an over-anxiety to hit sixes. On Saturday he banged R. C. Blunt for one and W. Douglas for another during a. short stay at the wickets during which he hit up 42 not out. In bowling he also puts all his energy into every ball, and can make ’em whizz, too. Monk comes from Auckland. He played for tho Alt. Albert Grammar School and North Shore some years ago.
