MANGAPU DRAINAGE BOARD
A meeting of the Mangapu Drainage Board was held at Te Kuiti on Saturday, Mr. W. A. Lee presiding. It was announced that the board had raised the required amount of money through the sale of debentures, £5,100 worth having been sold. This would be sufficient for the board’s requirements for some time. The scheme for the drainage of the Mangapu. area will now be proceeded with.
A £1 for £1 sudsidy up to £4,000 nas been received from the Land Drainage Department, a grant of £SOO from the Main Highways Board, and £ 750 from the Railway Department. A letter from North and Co., of Te Awamutu, regarding the board's query respecting the removal of willows, stated that an inspection had been made of the river between Hangatiki and Otorolianga. The work of killing the willows from .end to end would average £2 10s a chain.
Accounts amounting to £BO 6s 7cT were passed for payment.
Satisfaction was expressed at the very reasonable charges of executive officers in connection with the preliminary work of the board. A report submitted by the engineer stated that a start had been made with tne survey of the northern portion of the river, but .that adverse weather conditions had held up the work in the meantime.
