NEW LABOUR PEERAGES

NEW YEAR’S HONOURS DISCUSSED

COMMENT IN NEWSPAPERS British Official Wireless Reed. 11.57 a.m. RUGBY-, Sunday, The likelihood of several new Labour peerages being announced in the New Y’ear honours list is freely discussed iu the newspapers, which point out that the experience of the present Parliamentary- session has shown that the number of peers on the Government Benches in the House of Lords is insufficient to discharge efficiently the work of the Government in that Chamber. The Manchester “Guardian” says the new peers will not necessarily be all members of the Labour Party-, and it is possible that the Prime Minister may agree, for the purpose of the new creations, to some members of the Opposition parties, with strong leanings toward the policy or the present Government.
