ST. PAUL’S CHURCH
ANNUAL MEETING HELD CLOSE OF TRYING YEAR According to the session report presented at the annual meeting of the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Devonport, held last evening, the Rev. W. Lawson. Marsh, M.A., presiding, splendid work has been accomplished by the Bible classes, especially the junior men’s. All departments of the church’s organisations showed increased membership, and funds, except the Sunday school, which has suffered through the removal of the orphanage children to Auckland. The total membership was 241. A total revemve of £1,909 for the period under review showed a general reduction of debt by £397. The amount expended on missions and other church schemes amounted to £295. The Rev. *W. Lawson Marsh commented on the trying year which had just closed, reflected by the large amount of removals by deaths or otherwise. In the coming year they had a unique honour in the fact that their former minister, the Rev. George Budd, Moderator-designate of General Assembly, would still be a member of the session. Special mention was also made of the invaluable services of the women in all department of the church work. Speaking to a motion that a minute be prepared expressing great appreciation of the splendid work carried out by the Minister, the Rev. G. Budd said that Mr. Marsh’s ministry was marked by. a passion and clear exposition of the great themes, unequalled so far as he was aware in New Zealand.
The managers retiring by rotation were all re-elected, and Messrs. J. R. Kilgour, jun., S. Proctor, and J. D. Falla were newly appointed. Musical items were rendered by Miss Phyllis Tye and Miss Nellie Penman.
