TOY DOG SHOW
EXCELLENT EXHIBITS AT NEWMARKET PEKINGESE AND POMS Dogs and cats of many breeds and temperaments watched proceedings from their display cages in the Newmarket Municipal Hall today during th© Cat and Dog Show, held under tjie auspices of the Auckland Toy DogClub, which opened today. Th© experienced competitor faced th© judges with a supercilious air, while in a nearby cage a puppy on his first public appearance whimpered and cowered with fright at the strange surroundings. Fond owners were busy with their brushes making somewhat dishevelled exhibits presentable again. Others led their charges round the hall for an airing. By far th© larger number of competitors were Pekingese, but Pomeranians, although few in number, were of exceptionally good quality. Entries for Sehiperkes and King Charles Spaniels were a record for New Zealand.
There were only four prizes for cats, but these formed by no means the most uninteresting sections. Judging in the dog section whs carried out by Mr. J. \V. Cowley and Mrs. F. Harp, who made the awards regarding the cats. The show was opened at 2 o’clock, and will be continued this evenin# and tomorrow.
