BUSH DESTROYED BY GOATS
MANY KILLED IN EGMONT PARK
From Our Own Correspondent. NEW PLYMOUTH, Today. The damage done by goats to the bush in Egmont National Park was described by the chief ranger at a meeting of the Park Board. He said that the two men engaged to kill goats on the reserve had killed 130 in six days, bringing the total accounted for to 1.012. The area round the Kaitakere Ranges had been found fairly free from the animals and the undergrowth was* coming away well, but there were large numbers on the Pouakai Range, and there trees had been barked and the forest floor destroyed. It was hoped, however, to kill off many hundreds of goats there before the winter. The chairman of the board, Mr. T. C. List, reported that the Government had granted £l7O toward the work of destrLiction for the year, and with the £l5O voted by the board there was a total of £320 available for the work.
