THE CASH RIDERS

Members of the Auckland Cycle Club are not experiencing the best of luck in their selection of Wednesday evening as the time on which to hold their races. Out of the five nights allotted to the holding of events, only two have been held. Therefore, when the rain set in yesterday afternoon, riders were again doomed to disappointment. The professional club has had a good muster lately, owing to the acquisition of a number of amateurs, and it seems rather a pity that their efforts should be marred by the weather. The carnival which was to have been held on December 7 by the club is now cancelled, owing to the fact that the Auckland City Council could not agree to have the Western Springs track in order by that date. The committee, in deciding on the above, had also to contend with opposition from the sport of motor-cycling and motorcar racing, to bo held at Henning’s Speedway on the same date. A meetin lieu of the above has been arranged to be held at Sturges Park on January 25. A “working bee” is to be held to get the track in order. With £3O to be donated in prizes fur running and cycling events, a good meeting should result. It was pleasing to see A. Sercombe in action again last week. He met with an accident during last season when competing'as an amateur. His ride was full of merit, and he finished fourth. A notable absentee from the track races is J. Lindop, club champion. In conversation with the writer he stated lie would probably be competing on the banked track when it is opened, but -is not keen to participate on the gi-ass. He rode with some success in the South Island, where the former track was in much demand. He will be a draw-card if the Southern riders come up for the meetings to be held here. The race to be decided on the Domain next Wednesday evening will be a one and a-half mile handicap. The event will start at 5.45 p.m._
