HALF-HOLIDAY

HARBOUR BOARD DECISION

On Thursday the Auckland Harbour Board will close its offices and grant a half-holiday on full pay to all returned soldiers on its staff. This was decided at yesterday’s meeting when a request from the Mayor that a half-holiday should be granted employees on Thursday,, in view of the War Memorial ceremonies, came up for consideration. The chairman. Mr. M. H. Wynyard, said that it would hardly be possible to allow a general half-holiday on account of the work on the wharves.
