TOUR NEARLY OVER
COMMERCE TRAIN MAKES LAST CALLS IN AUCKLAND TOMORROW (TBB SUN’S Special Reporter.) WHANGAEEI, Today. Favoured with continued fine weather the Commerce train party is getting round the north with expedition. At Whangaroa early yesterday afternoon, the party was taken by the settlers for a drive to Kerikeri, the historic township in the Bay of Islands. A little further on afternoon tea was served at Group Settlement, where ex-military men and former British residents of China are growing citrus fruits. The party passed through Waimate again on the last stretch to Kawakavva. At the latter place they met the train, and after a smoke concert slept on the train. In the morning the passengers found themselves at Whangarei. The forenoon was given to a harbour excursion for half the party and a visit to Portland Cement works for the remainder. The trip on the water was arranged by the Whangarei Harbour Board, under the direction of the chairman. Mr. J. A. Finlayson, and four launches were placed by the Whangarei Cruising Club at the disposal of the visitors. This afternoon there is a motor run to Waipu, where a reception will be given by the old settlers this evening. The tour will end when the train reaches Auckland at 5.30 tomorrow morning.
