BIRTH AT ZOO
FIRST ELAND BORN IN CAPTIVITY VISITED BY MAYOR A young eland was born at the zoo this week. The animal belongs to the antelope species. The Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, who made a visit to the zoo this morning, said he believed the newcomer was the first of its kind ever born in captivity. It is also the first baby of a young pair acquired by the City Council about five years ago.
