Higher Tram Fares Cause Wide Protest
“SIX SHOULD RESIGN" MOVE BY COUNCILLOR The policy of the Transport Board in raising the price of concession tickets used on the trams and buses has excited strong and wide comment in the city. A member of the City Council has taken a drastic step in suggesting that the council’s six representatives should resign forthwith. Cr. G. Grey Campbell has given notice to move at the next ordinary meeting of the council to be held on Thursday, November 14, the following motion:
That in view of the increase in fares, an,d the curtailment of services, the six nominees of the City Council be asked to tender their resignations to the secretary of the Auckland Transport Board, in order that the ratepayers of the city may be given an early opportunity of expressing by means of an election their approval or otherwise of the policy of the Transport Board. Cr. Grey Campbell prefers to make no comment at the moment, being satisfied to let his proposal speak for itself.
