WAR OPPONENTS MEET

SMUTS TO PROPOSE TOAST

OF LETTOW-VORBECK NOTED GERMAN SOLDIER British Official Wireless RUGBY, Thursday. An interesting meeting will take place on December 2 between General J. C. Smuts, who commanded the British forces in East Africa during the Great War, and the German General, von Lettow-Vorbeck, his opponent in that struggle. The occasion is the East African campaign dinner, at which General Smuts will take the chair, and will propose the toast of General von Lettow-Vorbeck. It is recalled that General von Lettow-Vorbeck surrendered only after the signing of an armistice which specially accorded him the honours of war.
