SANDERS CUP CONTEST
CHALLENGE FROM OTAGO YACHTING IN AUCKLAND Challenges were received by the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association last evening from the Otago Yacht, and Motor-Boat Association both for the Sanders Cup contest and the Cornwell Cup contest to be hejd on the Waitemata early in 1930. Otago is tho first this season to forward a challenge. Last evening’s mooting was presided over by Mr. C. H. Palmer, vice-chair-man, in the absence of the chairman, Mr. O. MoUer. It was decided that the opening day races bo held on November 25. The annual meeting of tho association on which, fixtures will be allotted was fixed for October 29. Expressing disapproval of Auckland’s decision not to delete Rule 3, relating to interference with boats while racing, the Otago Association wrote again. The fetter was received and a brief reply .'sent. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr. Palmer, to write to the Auckland City Council suggesting that the height under the span of the bridge at Hobson Bay be 10ft above high water spring tides. It was stated that this "would^ give clearance to large launches with masts lowered to pass under the bridge at all stages of tho tide.
The Russell Regatta Club was granted permission to hold its annual regatta on Friday, December 27. The question whether the club would be entitled to retain at Russell all future races for the New Zealand championship for outboard motor-boats was briefly discussed and referred to the next Dominion Yachting Conference in Auckland. It was decided to invite a representative from each club to be present at this meeting, which would be held prior to the annual contest for the Sanders Memorial Cup.
