POWER-BOAT RACING
ASSOCIATION’S SEASON POPULARITY OF OUTBOARDS The rapid growth of the sport of outboard racing ;md the progress of speed-boat racing pi oper is commented on in the report to be presented at the 24th annual meeting of the New Zealand Power-Boat Association on October 24. The association is to be complimented on having created a record for the number of races it had held for the motor-boat raoing enthusiasts, states the report. Twenty-eight races were held last season. Speed-boat owners most enthusiastically turned out in full force, and some of the finishes were a delight to the spectators. / During the past winter, several new cruisers had been built, and with the advent of the new season there was a prospect of added interest, and keen racing should result. RACING ON THE WHAU Racing on the Whau River was not the success financially it was during the previous season owing to the numerous counter-attractions. The outboards had certainly justified the consideration given them, and keen racing had been the result. From all reports, the coming season has the appearance of being a lively one for these speedy craft, and the association will have to consider the advisability of turning the social room of the clubhouse into a shelter for the outboards during tho summer months. Appreciation is recorded of the assistance given during the season by the Harbour Board, the superintendent, Mr. 11. B. Burnett, the harbourmaster, Captain H. H. Sergeant. The harbourmaster very kindly had an outboard course laid in Hobson Buy for use at any time. Deep regret is recorded of the. death of a life member, Mr. Peter Robertson. ________________
